Louise's Travel Journal

Washington D.C.

At our house, Birthdays happen in September. We’ve decided that this year we’ll take a vacation.

We packed up and hopped a plane to our nation’s capital. My plan is to spend the weekend eating and sightseeing. Derick’s main objective is to geek out at the Art of Video Games exhibit at the National Art Gallery.

We arrived it DC at noon on Thursday and took the metro to The Dupont Circle Hotel. We checked in, changed shoes and went out to find lunch. We were very pleased to find so many unique dining options in our neighborhood and decided to start across the street at Kramerbooks & Afterwords. I had a fresh and delicious crab cake sandwich and spring greens salad and Derick had a Cuban sandwich that made his eyes glossy and his tummy happy.

After lunch we had a nice long walk from Dupont Circle down to the White House and the Washington Monument. We walked down Constitution Avenue to the National Archives. We toured the museum and went to see our Charters of Freedom. The Declaration of Independence, The Constitution of the United States, the Bill of Rights and an original Magna Carta.

We made our way to the National Gallery Sculpture Garden and people watched on the National Mall. When we got hungry we made out way back up to Dupont Circle for sushi appetizers and wine at Raku and dinner at Circa. I’m enjoying a lovely drink called a “dark & stormy” this trip.

Dark & Stormy: Gosling’s Black Rum & Gosling’s Ginger Beer garnished with a wedge of lime.
