This is the summer of The Great Mother/Daughter Road Trip!
My mom and I are headed “West” with an agenda of hiking throughout Colorado and Arches National Park in Utah and spending a few days at the Telluride Bluegrass Festival.
We headed out to explore 2,700 miles of America’s highways (and a few dirt roads). Leaving after work on Friday, the first 3 hours in a car was just the practice we needed for the longs days ahead. Our first night’s stay was with my Grandma in Whittemore, IA. Good food, comfortable beds and free hugs. Off to an excellent start!
Our first full day on the road started early. We left Grandma’s with coffee in hand and didn’t stop for breakfast until Carey’s Restaurant in Cherokee, IA. Farm Fresh, mid-west omelets and strong coffee! We parked the car along side a building and waited out a wicked storm of hail and violent winds. After about 10 mins. the storm passed and that was the last of the rain we saw on this trip.
Our destination for the evening was Ogallala, NE. So, with blue skies ahead we lined up our favorite tunes and put rubber to the road.
