Louise's Travel Journal

The Real Grand Canyon

This year for Derick’s Birthday we asked his mother, Dawn, to join us on a family vacation for a week’s stay at my parent’s timeshare, The Grandview Las Vegas. Off we go to Sin City again!

The three of us agreed that we wanted to do something none of us had ever done, so immediately after landing in Las Vegas, we got our rental car and drove straight to The Grand Canyon. We stopped for lunch along the way at RedNeck’s BBQ in Kingman, AZ. (Best Hot Sauce Ever!) We finally got to the canyon just in time for sunset! Watched the rich oranges fade to blue shadows and then headed to our hotel in Williams, AZ.

We had a delish Southwestern dinner and Irish ale at Pancho McGillicuddy’s. A long day of travel from Minnesota and hours in the car had exhausted us, off to bed.

The next morning, the three of us headed to the South Rim of the Grand Canyon. We stood at the same spot we saw the sunset the night before and it looked like a completely different place. We hiked the 2 miles of Rim Trail and enjoyed the beauty and vastness of this national treasure.

Drove back to Vegas that night for a week of sinfully good relaxation!
